-NSFNET Essay
The commercialization of the internet is an interesting event. It really represents the birth of something new, something that we have only begun to realize the benefit of today. Before my event, the internet was just a large branching network of databases, usually containing scientific data or educational reports. It’s use was strictly regulated to educational use by the NSFNET, the National Science Foundation Network. I think that if we had kept that network in play, we would not have all the innovation that we have in the current millenium.
The rise of the internet begins in the 1960s when prominent scientists paired a collection of information storage devices, building sized hard drives, with each other, allowing retrieval from a collection of sources. This, along with the increasing technological level of computers, gave rise to the need of a connected network. The National Science Foundation Network was put into place so that the use of the internet was kept purely for research and educational purposes. As the network grew bigger and bigger, the big businesses saw the opportunities to gain from the network, and petitioned to shut down the NSFNET. More specifically, the National Science Foundation ended its sponsorship of the NSFNET backbone on April 30th 1995.
With the development of the telegraph, data communication became more than a concept. It was further advanced through the years and surfaced through multiple forms, such as the telephone. When advancing computers become technologically powerful enough to send data through an established network, then the experimentation began. They began with a connection between the University of Los Angeles and the Stanford Research Institute. They typed three letters in and it crashed, but the internet was in sight.
-Reflection
During this project, we worked a lot on poetry and study on our own time. I feel that it went quite well and I learned a lot about poetry and how to write it, improving my writing ability drastically. It certainly helped with the essay that we wrote, along with organizing the presentation. I specifically remember the long process of trying to find rhyming words that had the right number of syllables to fit into my poem. My poem is in Terza Rima format, I had to write each line with only ten syllables, and the last words had to rhyme in some sort of pattern. It was difficult but I think I gained a lot from it. I also learned that when refining drafts, I definitely need to work on creating copies of all of my drafts. It certainly helps in the long run and can provide me with a good backdrop when evaluating my writing abilities. I really enjoyed writing the poem and sharing my subject with the class, although I felt I brushed over it at a excessive pace. At the end of the project my group contribution was helping to design the project website, as well as helping to format the poems.

Absolutely True Comic Project
This project focused on the troubles that Native Americans faced throughout history. We learned all about their problems, in the past and the present, and how they have solved through their troubles. Our product was a comic about one aspect of Native American History. We hung them in an art gallery for our exhibition.
<---- My Comic
My comic is about the common misconceptions surrounding Native Americans and certain species becoming extinct around the time the Native Americans discovered them, about 10,000 years ago. A lot of people think that the Native Americans killed off those animals, but it's just as likely that Natural Disaster did it. I kind of picked an topic that was off the main focus of the project, but I didn't want to focus my comic on something like a war or a treaty that put Native Americans in a bad spot. Just hearing about all of these terrible events made me feel really guilty.
I learned a lot about Native Americans, but I also learned that their history is incredibly depressing.
